TU 450 Bister ink
Bister ink is made of:
- With borax saponified shellac as binder
- Bister
Hard wood soot is boiled with potash. The brown carbonacids are dissolved in water this way.
The residue contains only very black, carbon like substances. All acids are washed out.
The residue will be washed carefully, then ground to powder. The water dispersed bister is
used for preparing the bister ink.
Stability:
Sometimes the ink become solid after a while. The stability depends mainly on two points:
- if the ink becomes cold, the shellac solidifies.
Slowly/gently, heat the ink and stir for a while.
- if the inks become dry, the shellac becomes solid as well.
Add a bit of water, warm it up gently and stir.
